2009 Lunch and Learn Series
As part of our commitment to providing education to our clients, we will be providing educational seminars to teach board members and managers about current issues facing community associations. Our 2009 Lunch and Learn series may qualify for continuing education credit (please confirm with your sponsor to ensure you will receive proper credit).
2/12/09 Fiduciary Duty: Training New Board Members.
This course is designed to provide community managers with the necessary tools to teach new board members about their responsibilities associated with serving as a volunteer board member for their community association. Board members will also benefit from this course.
4/8/09 Is it Maintenance or a Defect?
When dealing with substantial repairs in a community, it is easy to wonder if the repairs fall within the category of routine maintenance, or if the need for such repairs rises to the level of a construction defect. Some of our sponsors will share their expertise regarding the difference between routine maintenance and potential defects.
5/27/09 Collections and Bankruptcy: Getting Money from Owners, Banks and Defunct Developers.
These difficult economic times are having a tremendous impact on community associations, and indicators lead us to believe things will get worse before they get better. Associations need to learn how to optimize their collection options, whether they are dealing with bank owned properties, vacant property left by a defunct developer, property owned by absentee investors, or homeowners who have filed bankruptcy. This course will provide you with the most recent developments and strategies in pursing collections in this challenging economic environment.
8/19/09 Legislative and Legal Update and (time permitting) Vendor Contracts.
We will provide you with the latest changes to laws governing community associations, whether such laws come from the courts or from the legislators. If the changes in the law are minimal this year, we will also spend time discussing vendor contracts and key points to consider anytime you enter into a contract with a vendor.
11/4/09 Insurance Claims and Water Leaks: Who is Responsible?
What do you do when you receive a phone call regarding a water leak. Who is responsible for repairing the leak? Who is responsible for repairing the damage caused by the leak? What, if anything is covered by insurance? Do you need to tender the claim to the insurance company? Can the deductible be charged to the homeowner? We will provide general answers to these commonly asked questions, together with the expertise of our sponsors.
The Lunch & Learn series is provided as a free benefit to our clients. Non-client board members are allowed to attend for a nominal fee. Please contact us for more details and to register in advance for our seminar.
